Rabbitt Design Pro Plan for Chief Architect X18 Public Beta
Chief Architect X18 is officially in public beta, and the Rabbitt Design Pro Plan for X18 has been rebuilt to take full advantage of the biggest drafting, annotation, graphics, and automation improvements introduced in this release.
Unlike templates that are slowly pieced together from project edits, the Rabbitt Design Pro Plan is purpose-built in dedicated development cycles every year. Each version represents months of focused development, testing, rewriting, rebuilding, and refinement.
The X18 Pro Plan is not just a compatibility update. It is a major rebuild that takes advantage of the new X18 toolset, including layer-based fill styles, improved room label behavior, label formatting, 3D cladding, .WEBP image support, schedule improvements, and more.
This release is designed to make Chief Architect X18 feel more polished, more automated, more graphic, and significantly faster in day-to-day drafting.
What Makes the Pro Plan Different
The Rabbitt Design Pro Plan is the only Chief Architect template system on the market developed through dedicated 3–4 month build cycles each year.
Every release includes:
Crowdsourced edits and community-driven improvements
Crowdfunded investment of time, software, hardware, and custom coding
Automation-first development to reduce redundancy, limit liability, and improve consistency
Continuous refinement of graphics, construction documentation, schedules, annotations, and workflow systems
1300+ curated library items designed for efficiency and consistency
Template systems developed around real customer workflows, support requests, and production needs
Rabbitt Design does not rely on affiliate marketing or paid recommendations. If you have seen the Pro Plan recommended, it is almost always because real users are actively using it, learning from it, and seeing the value in their own production workflow.
Rabbitt Design pours everything into development and lets word of mouth, community support, and product trust speak for themselves.
Built Specifically for Chief Architect X18
The X18 Pro Plan was rebuilt around some of the most important new features introduced in Chief Architect X18 public beta.
One of the biggest changes is Control Fill Style by Layer, a feature Rabbitt Design has been lobbying for over several years. This allows object fills, colors, transparencies, and patterns to be derived from the layer they reside on instead of being hard-coded object by object.
That single change opens the door to far more dynamic and graphic views.
The X18 Pro Plan takes advantage of this throughout the template system, including:
Wall types
Framing views
Roof plans
Foundation views
Detail views
Area analysis views
Real estate overview graphics
Construction document layer sets
Trade-specific display control
This allows views to change dramatically based on Saved Plan View, Layer Set, and Default Set, without requiring the user to manually edit objects one by one.
Layer-Based Fill Styles: The Major X18 Breakthrough
The biggest visual and documentation upgrade in the X18 Pro Plan is the new layer-based fill style system.
In previous versions, object display was more limited. Fill colors, hatches, and line behavior were often tied to object settings or line styles in ways that made dynamic view control difficult.
In X18, the Pro Plan can now use layer assignments to control:
Fill color
Fill pattern
Fill transparency
Line style
Display behavior
View-specific graphics
This means the same object can display differently from one view to another in a cleaner, more controlled, and more automated way.
A framing member can read clearly in a working framing view, then display differently in a printed framing view. Wall layers can be shown, hidden, hatched, lightened, emphasized, or simplified based on the view. Ceiling joists, roof rafters, wall framing, hatching, footings, and other construction elements can now be graphically separated with far more clarity.
This creates cleaner drawings, clearer trade views, and a more professional construction document set.
Dynamic Wall Type Display
All included wall types in the X18 Pro Plan have been overhauled around the new layer-based display system.
Wall type layers are now assigned to individual display layers, which means the line styles and fill styles can be controlled at the Layer Set level.
This allows built-in wall types to be far more dynamic than before.
For example, the Pro Plan can now quickly shift between:
Simplified working wall display
Wall hatching display
Main layer line display
New construction dimensioning display
Framing-focused wall display
Trade-specific documentation display
Cleaner printed construction document views
With the new wall type layer management, the Pro Plan includes new default sets for new construction workflows that can change dimension defaults, display main wall layers, and hatch surrounding layers automatically.
The result is a much more flexible wall system that can adapt from view to view without needing separate wall types for every graphic condition.
Faster Macro Systems and Reduced Drawing Lag
The X18 Pro Plan includes a major overhaul of the macro-driven systems.
The window, door, cabinet, room label, area analysis, roof, foundation, annotation, schedule, and helper macro systems have been rewritten to reduce redundant calculations and improve responsiveness.
The system has been restructured around global methods, helper macros, and pre-cached executable logic so that objects can retrieve values more efficiently instead of repeatedly running through long isolated macro chains.
In practical terms, this has resulted in an estimated reduction of approximately 200–700 milliseconds per click in many drawing and placement workflows, with testing showing roughly 350 milliseconds per click of improvement in key areas such as drawing rooms and placing windows, doors, and cabinets.
That may sound small until you multiply it across hundreds or thousands of clicks in a working plan.
The X18 Pro Plan feels faster, cleaner, and more responsive while still performing highly complex calculations for labels, schedules, area analysis, annotations, and reporting values.
Smarter Room Labels
Chief Architect X18 introduces a more powerful room label system, and the Pro Plan uses that improvement heavily.
The new X18 Pro Plan room label system is designed to reduce the amount of manual label cleanup required while drawing.
Room labels now automatically format themselves based on room size. Smaller rooms can abbreviate the room name and hide or simplify ceiling height information. Larger rooms can display more complete information automatically.
This means you can draw and resize rooms with far less manual text editing.
The Pro Plan also includes new tools and style palettes for proposed rooms, additions, and new conditioned area workflows. Room types such as scullery, butler’s pantry, coat, and foyer have also been added.
The goal is simple: draw the plan, and let the room labels behave like a polished automated system instead of a constant manual cleanup task.
Automatic Label Formatting for Windows, Doors, and Cabinets
Window, door, and cabinet label systems have also been rewritten.
Labels now use more efficient global logic and can automatically abbreviate, stack, or simplify based on object width, view type, and reporting needs.
In elevation and kitchen views, windows now use callouts instead of traditional labels. In other view types, labels remain available and controlled based on the needs of that view.
Door macros have been rewritten for better rough opening label offsets in framing views, and helper macros have been updated for schedules that use alphanumeric labels.
The result is a cleaner, more automated annotation system that requires less manual editing while still providing better reporting and documentation.
Rebuilt Detail Designation System
The detail system has been completely rewritten and simplified.
The Detail Designations Page has been overhauled with new categories, including deck structural elements and other common detail groupings. The older fill-based CAD label designation system has been removed, and the details were rewritten to eliminate that dependency.
The updated system now uses a cleaner callout and annotation structure that is easier to understand, easier to navigate, and easier to maintain.
A new annotation library is also included to help integrate details into the broader Pro Plan documentation system.
The Pro Plan can now use the Detail Designations Page to drive annotations across views, including prebuilt construction details and cross-section details. This helps turn cross-section detailing into a process that can take minutes instead of hours.
Updated Graphics, Layer Sets, and Layouts
All layer sets have been reviewed and updated for better graphics, better line weights, better fill styles, and clearer output.
The X18 Pro Plan includes a second major overhaul of layer-based fill styles and layer sets, including a full review of built-in wall types.
Updates include:
Cleaner cross-section and elevation line weights
Better framing view graphics
Improved floor framing plan display
Improved roof plan dimensioning
Better framing fill colors and fills
View-dependent framing fill styles
Cleaner attic wall display
Updated footing display with angle hatch and transparency
Better detail fill styles
Room fill display for overview views
A new fill style library for real estate listing style overview graphics
Updated layout alignment
Easier snapping
Uniform title and label locations
Right-justified layout labels pinned to layout box corners
Callout arrows added to elevation cameras
The result is a more cohesive visual system across plans, elevations, sections, details, framing views, and layouts.
Improved Framing Views and Braced Wall Panel Tools
The framing systems have received significant cleanup and graphic improvements.
Updates include:
New BWP Saved Plan View
New braced wall line setup
Updated BWP schedule using new ABC conventions
Improved draw order for BWP tools in framing views
Better floor framing plan display
Ceiling beam and joist layers turned on for floor framing plan views
Adjusted framing fill styles for better graphics
New framing back clip for easier cross sections
Door macro updates for rough opening labels in framing views
These improvements make framing views cleaner, more legible, and easier to work with.
New Kitchen and Cabinet Workflow Tools
The X18 Pro Plan includes new quick tools for kitchen and cabinet workflows.
Updates include:
New side panel kitchen quick tools
New tray divider quick tool
Undercounter light tool now draws clockwise
Cabinet and fenestration elevation views now display only schedule numbers
Cabinet labels and schedules rewritten for faster and cleaner output
Cabinet-related macros moved into a more efficient global system
These tools are designed to reduce repetitive cabinet documentation work and speed up common kitchen drafting tasks.
New CSV / Spreadsheet Integration Add-On System
The X18 Pro Plan includes an add-on system for reading CSV outputs from BuilderTrend, JobTread, and generic CSV files.
This system is user configurable and is designed to support more advanced schedule and project information workflows.
For X18, the assisted install can also include preliminary setup for using the new spreadsheet-linking workflow, including Google Sheets or Excel-based data that can be brought into Chief Architect schedules automatically.
This is one of the areas where the Pro Plan continues to push Chief Architect beyond a standard drafting template and into a more integrated production system.
Updated Materials, Roofs, Cladding, and Exterior Graphics
The X18 Pro Plan includes a refreshed visual style for materials, roofs, siding, trim, and exterior presentation.
Updates include:
New 3D cladding profiles for included wall types
Updated comp shingle roof material
Improved roof bump mapping
New frieze boards and gable end shadow board moldings
Updated roof overhang behavior
Removed outdated gable end Z-bar behavior
Added gutter guard
New window and door casings
New custom sill profile
New exterior siding texture
New concrete texture with ambient occlusion maps for stronger shadowing
Aggregated plan materials to reduce some file sizes
Replaced PNG library images with WEBP files for better file size efficiency
While 3D cladding profiles are available from other sources, Rabbitt Design builds its profiles with the same philosophy used for its material systems: performance, realism, usability, and clean presentation.
The included comp shingle and siding profiles are designed to look realistic without creating unnecessary performance problems.
Cleaner Project Information and Annotation Management
Anno tool options now live inside Chief Architect’s built-in Project Information Tool.
The annotation system has been completely rewritten for easier customization and now automatically reports floor surface when not connected but located inside a room.
Design load, specification, logo, and stamp information now come from one file. Code version data can automatically switch specification information based on state and country codes.
This creates a more centralized and maintainable documentation system.
Pro Plan Transfer Tool
The X18 Pro Plan includes a new Pro Plan Transfer Tool designed to reduce the number of steps required when transferring Pro Plan systems into an active workflow.
This is part of the broader goal of making the Pro Plan easier to install, easier to maintain, and easier to update across future releases.
Advanced Development Philosophy
The Pro Plan is built from the top down as a complete production system, not just a collection of saved defaults.
Rabbitt Design invests in high-end hardware, current software, AI-assisted editing, custom code, and real-world testing to push Chief Architect as far as possible within each version.
The X18 Pro Plan includes:
Inherited and dependent coding structures
Global helper methods
Pre-cached executable logic
Operating system-wide workflow development
AI-assisted review and editing
Macro systems designed around reduced redundancy
Highly refined layer, layout, and schedule management
A 10,000-foot automation strategy simplified into tools users can actually learn
The goal is to create massively powerful systems that still feel intuitive.
Inspired by the video game industry, the Pro Plan is designed to be easy to pick up and use immediately, while still having a much higher ceiling for advanced users who want to unlock deeper automation, schedule logic, annotation control, and production workflows.
Assisted Install Recommended
The Pro Plan is a large and advanced template system, and the X18 version introduces even more automation, layer control, spreadsheet integration, and system-level setup options.
Assisted Install is strongly recommended.
While the Pro Plan can be installed by the user, there are always machine-specific variables, including:

The Annotation Tool is a specialized utility in the Pro Plan that allows you to auto-generate annotations by linking a leader line from a note or text box to any object in the plan. By default, the Pro Plan includes a dedicated note tool that works seamlessly with this system. Once a leader is drawn, the Annotation Tool references object-specific logic to report accurate, context-based information.
For architectural designers, this means that attaching a leader to a staircase will automatically report details such as rise, run, and number of treads. Linking it to a crawl space will return head clearance, while connecting it to a foundation wall will output specifications about that wall. If no object-specific logic is defined, the system defaults to identifying the type of object and reporting its automatic description, when applicable.
When placed independently (without a leader), the tool assumes you are calling out floor finishes. The tool is also remodel-aware: it checks the plan file name for “New” or “Existing” to understand whether it should switch annotations to represent demo versus proposed conditions in a remodel workflow.
The Annotation Tool can be used across plan views, elevation views, and 3D views. When combined with Kitchen Tools, it gains additional capabilities: for example, a two-drawer base sprayer cabinet can automatically report “pots and pans” as its annotation. These annotations are driven by object-specific data fields and can be saved into the library, ensuring consistent and repeatable annotation standards.
Beyond native capabilities, the Annotation Tool integrates with other Rabbitt Design packages, such as RSMeans or Buildertrend/Jobtrend integrations, allowing annotations and schedules to be driven directly from project management systems or CRM specifications.
Now in its second year of development, the Annotation Tool continues to evolve, offering a future-ready solution that reduces user input errors by pulling from known parameters and automating annotations through single-click workflows.
